The Guardian Newspaper in the UK ran a great article yesterday “In praise of baths“. It points out how the ancient art of bathing is in decline, falling victim to a not so new enemy – the shower. They give s short rundown of the history of the bath and end the article with a 5 pointer on “How To Have The Perfect Bath”, and we concur.
1) Run a very deep bath (slightly too hot).
2) Add too much bubble bath.
3) Pour a large glass of wine (red).
4) Choose a book – not too heavy (in either sense of the word).
5) Lock the door.

The Chicago Tribune carried an article today on Ofuro bathtubs. If you don’t know what an Ofuro is – they’re deep wooden soaking tubs originally designed by the Japanese for relaxation. Japanese bathtubs come in different shapes and sizes but Ofuro tubs are generally made from wood and your sitting position is somewhat upright to allow water to reach to the neck of the bather. it makes for a comfortable and great soaking experience.

The York News-Times are running an article today on how to fix up homes that has been in foreclosure. They suggest 2 quick fixes that will make a large and immediate impact on any house. One of these, not surprisingly is to install a new bathtub. We have long been advocates of the position that your bathtub style is often one of the primary tone setters in any house, definitely so in the bathroom.

We make no secret of the fact that we love the elegance of a classic clawfoot bathtub. We found these great images on Flickr and thought we’d share the here. These may be old and it does seem like they’re in need of some refinishing but they remain beautiful nonetheless.
