A Guide for Beginners to Install a Bathtub
Installing a bathtub in your home is a great way to fix up your home, and maybe add a little extra value to it as well. Since installing a bathtub usually requires two or more people; it can also be used as a learning experience in teamwork for your family.
There are several things you may want to think about before embarking on your installing bath tub project. Just a few things you may want to think about before starting an installation are as follows:
- You will want to think about what size of bathtub you may want to install.
- Make sure you are positive on the design of the bathroom beforehand.
- Make sure you are going to have plenty of time before you start this process for the simple reason that it may take longer than you expect to finish it.
There are several others things you may want to think about as well as the ones listed above. Make sure you spend plenty of time thinking about how you want the bathroom to look when you are finished. You don’t want to spend a bunch of money on this process and not be happy with it.
If you are absolutely positive that installing a bathtub is what you want to do; there are a few things you will need for the job. The tools that are required for such a job are as follows:
- One new bathtub
- Hacksaw
- Tape measure and level
- Galvanized nails and screws
- Cutting torch (if you are using steel or copper pipes)
- Piping(be sure you know exactly how much pipe you will need to do the plumbing correctly)
- A drill
- You will need wood strapping and plastic shims
- Safety glasses
- You may need a propane torch and soldering supplies
These are the necessary tools to complete such an installation. Keep in mind there are also several steps that you will definitely want to follow in order to successfully complete installing a bath tub.
Bathtub Installation Steps
- Be sure and gather all the tools and equipment that you will need for this job.
- One of the most important things you need to do is remove the old tub without causing any unwanted damage to your bathroom, make sure you take apart the walls (if necessary) to remove the tub.
- Connect all plumbing and piping (if you will not be retrofitting the old to new plumbing); before you place the new tub into position.
- After you have connected all the piping you will want to put the new bathtub into place. When installing bath tubs, you really have to make sure the size is right for a complete look. If the size is not just perfect; you can improvise by using strips of water treated wood or plastic strips to connect the tub with the walls.
- Connect all the piping to the tub.
- After you have connected all the piping and the tub is in place you will want to reconstruct the walls, and replace any tile that had to be destroyed in order to remove the old tub.
- Finish any touch ups to tub, walls, paint, etc.
