There are three types of Takagi Japanese style bath tubs you can purchase. Learn the types and installation requirements to decide which one is best for your bathroom.
If you are unfamiliar with what a Japanese style bathtub is; then you have come to the right place for information. For those who do not have any idea what a Takagi tub is; let me explain. A Takagi Japanese style bath tub is square and very deep. It is designed to sit upright in and soak. Some tubs have a bench seat in them and some do not. The idea is to sit with your knees bent, immersing your entire body in water (right up to your neck). You will experience total muscle relaxation with a tub of this kind.
Models of Takagi Japanese Style Bath Tub
Takagi bath tubs generally fall into two categories, those designed to be installed and take the place of a regular bath tub and those that can be placed in a stand up shower space. There are also models for outside use as well.
Slide In
The tubs that fit into your existing shower are small, compact and usually weigh less than 100 pounds. A single person can install this tub. You simply bring the tub home and slide it in to place. The faucet form your shower is used to fill the tub and the water is drained away (after bathing) by removing the drain plug in the Takagi Japanese style bath tub, letting the water flow out the shower drain. Nothing could be simpler or more satisfying!
Generally the slide in Takagi tub is made of a poly resin or similar acrylic material. The units are quite durable and remove as easily as they were installed. If you move, you just take the Takagi Japanese style bath tub with you. If you have a larger shower, you will still be able to use it; as the Takagi tub takes up very little space. This can be ideal for a small bath that has only a shower, and no bath tub. You can have your bath tub in a fraction of the space a tub/shower insert would use.
Built In
Takagi Japanese style bath tubs that are made for built in installation; can either take the place of your existing tub (you will have to remove your old tub of course) or be added to a bathroom that has no bath tub in it. Installing this type of Takagi Japanese style bath tub is more difficult than the slide in type and will require some plumbing skills.
If you are not familiar with plumbing, you may want to hire someone to come in and do the installation for you. Your old tub will need to be removed (if you have one) and plumbing adjustments made to connect the Takagi Japanese style bath tub.
You can get additional features in the build in tub such as thermostat control, a timer and many design styles. They come in many materials such as wood, tile, enamel, acrylic and granite. The more complex the Takagi Japanese style bath tub, the more expensive. Portable units can begin in the 800 dollar range and go up to 20,000 dollars in intricate Takagi tubs built for two (with all the bells and whistles).
Outdoor
Special outdoor Takagi Japanese style bath tubs are made to withstand the outside elements, yet deliver a long soak in the tub outdoors.
It does not matter which type of Takagi Japanese style bath tub you decide is right for you; it is guaranteed to deliver the soaking experience of a lifetime.
